Informal Book Reviews

Informal reviews of books that have shaped my thinking or delighted me—however unlikely they are to appear in a scholarly footnote.

Every book is assessed with the utmost scholarly rigor using two carefully crafted scales:
Late Night Reads Scale: 🌙
Tracks how late into the night the book keeps you turning pages. Ranges from “I closed this book before 10 p.m. like a responsible adult” to “Who needs sleep? Just one more chapter… and one more… until sunrise.”
 Cup of Coffee Scale: ☕
Measures how many cups of coffee you’ll need to survive the reading experience. From a gentle single espresso (easy and smooth) to a full pot of triple-shot espresso (complex, demanding, and maybe borderline exhausting).
Together, these scales provide a scientifically unchallengeable (and highly caffeinated) way to measure both the mental stamina and the addictive quality of any given book.
